Texas Ballot Petition & Instructions
Get General Clark on the Ballot in Texas!

In order to qualify for the ballot in Texas, Wesley Clark must pay a fee of $2,500 OR obtain signatures of 5,000 registered voters anywhere in the State of Texas.

  • Our first goal is to get enough valid signatures to qualify for the ballot instead of spending the money.
  • Our second goal is to use the petitioning process to find voters who will vote for General Clark, volunteer to help, and attend their precinct convention the evening of March 9, 2004.
In order to be sure that every signature is valid, a sample is run for the signatures that are turned in. Therefore, we must have several times as many signatures as the base number of 5,000. You can reproduce as many petitions as you need on a local copy machine.
WHAT DATA IS MANDATORY vs. OPTIONAL:

  1. The only item that must be in the voter's own handwriting is the signature.
  2. The required things that MUST be turned in to be valid are the first seven columns:
  • Date signed,
  • Signature,
  • Printed Name,
  • Address, County,
  • Voter Registration Number, and
  • Date of Birth.
If they don't have their voter registration number with them, we will have volunteers fill that in later. It is legal to do so. For our organizing purposes, we've added email, phone and a place to check if they wish info about volunteering or attending their precinct convention. They don't have to fill that in if they do not wish to do so. (Omission of the zip or state does not invalidate a signature — but we want them for OUR database, so write them in if you can).
WHO CAN SIGN:

The only requirement is that the person be registered to vote in Texas.

  • A person who does not intend to or will not vote in the Democratic primary MAY sign the petition.
  • A person may sign the petition even if they aren't sure if they will vote for General Clark. This ONLY qualifies him for the ballot.
  • A person may only sign a ballot petition for ONE candidate.

The only legal thing they are agreeing to do through the petition statement is NOT to vote in the Republican Primary or attend the convention of the Libertarians, Greens, etc.

TURNING IN THE PETITIONS:

Attach a signed “Affidavit of Circulator”. If you can get it notarized or witnessed, please do so. Your local organization can assist you on where and how to do this or email us at TexansForClark. Turn competed affidavit or petitions into your local TexansForClark organizers if you are working with a local organization. These local groups will assist in obtaining missing voter registration numbers before sending them on to Austin.

If you are working alone or outside a local organization, mail them to:
TexansForClark, P.O. Box 13226, Austin TX 78711.

We urge you to turn in completed petitions anytime you've surpassed 100 signatures. We're going to reward the best petition collectors with some T E R R I F I C prizes (to be determined)!!!
